It is full of cruel misrepresentations. It deepens the shadows unto unnatural darkness, and shuts out the rays of sunshines that ought to relieve them".

Willis was involved in the divorce suit between the actor Edwin Forrest and his wife Catherine Norton Sinclair Forrest.

He moved to Philadelphia and filed for divorce in February though the Pennsylvania legislature denied his application. Willis defended Catharine, who maintained her innocence, in the Home Journal and suggested that Forrest was merely jealous of her intellectual superiority.

Willis arbitrarily refused to print the work of his sister Sara Willis " Fanny Fern " after , [56] though she previously had contributed anonymous book reviews to the Home Journal.

I am sorry that any editor knows that a sister of mine wrote some of these which you sent me", he wrote. Nathaniel Willis was represented as "Hyacinth Ellet", an effeminate, self-serving editor who schemes to ruin his sister's prospects as a writer.

Among his later works, following in his traditional sketches about his life and people he has met, were Hurry-Graphs , Out-Doors at Idlewild , and Ragbag Willis had complained that his magazine writing prevented him from writing a longer work.

He finally had the time in , and he wrote his only novel, Paul Fane , which was published a year later.

In July , Willis took his last major trip. Willis was very sick in these final years: he suffered from violent epileptic seizures and, early in November , fainted in the streets.

Throughout his literary career, Willis was well liked and known for his good nature amongst friends. Well traveled and clever, he had a striking appearance at six feet tall and was typically dressed elegantly.

Many, however, remarked that Willis was effeminate, Europeanized, and guilty of "Miss Nancyism". One editor called him "an impersonal passive verb—a pronoun of the feminine gender".

Burke Fisher, a journalist in Pittsburgh , wrote that "Willis is a kind of national pet and we must regard his faults as we do those of a spoiled stripling, in the hope that he will amend".

Willis built up his reputation in the public at a time when readers were interested in the personal lives of writers. As he once wrote: "We would have you In the publishing world, Willis was known as a shrewd magazinist and an innovator who focused on appealing to readers' special interests while still recognizing new talent.

According to writer George William Curtis , "His gayety [sic] and his graceful fluency made him the first of our proper 'magazinists'".

James Parton said of him:. Of all the literary men whom I have ever known, N. Willis was the one who took the most pains with his work.

It was no very uncommon thing for him to toil over a sentence for an hour; and I knew him one evening to write and rewrite a sentence for two hours before he had got it to his mind.

By and with the publication of Hurry-Graphs , Willis was becoming a forgotten celebrity. In August , future President James A.

Garfield discussed Willis's declining popularity in his diary: "Willis is said to be a licentious man, although an unrivaled poet.

How strange that such men should go to ruin, when they might soar perpetually in the heaven of heavens". Willis as one worthy to stand with Fenimore Cooper and Washington Irving".

Baker wrote, Willis is today only referred to as a footnote in relation to other authors. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Rather than surrender, they used a magical time spell to take their colony out of time and into Limbo.

There they have lived for decades, preparing to exact their violent revenge on humans. Lavinia's annual Masked Ball at Mydworth Manor is a highlight of the season, as locals mingle with the great and famous from London.

But the lavish party comes to a full stop when one of the guests is found dead down by the lake. It seems it's a clear case of a heart attack.

But Harry and Kat suspect that the dead man in a mask was in fact the victim of a clever case of murder. And the killer's work at the party is not yet done Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genius, and, above all, a criminal mastermind.

When a prominent family's daughter flees sleepy Sussex to seek a career on the stages of a glittering West End, Harry and Kat are asked to check in on the young woman.

But the two of them soon discover that there is a much bigger danger to the woman and her family than mere acting dreams being crushed. Artemis has committed his entire fortune to a project he believes will save the planet and its inhabitants, both human and fairy.

Can it be true? From the authors of the best-selling series Cherringham. A young poacher is found shot dead in the woods of a grand estate near Mydworth.

And it is not long before their investigations take an even more dramatic turn. They are Hazel, James, Aubrey, and Colette.

A classical pianist from London, a British would-be architect turned soldier, a Harlem-born ragtime genius in the US Army, and a Belgian orphan with a gorgeous voice and a devastating past.

Their story, as told by goddess Aphrodite, who must spin the tale or face judgment on Mount Olympus, is filled with hope and heartbreak, prejudice and passion, and reveals that, though war is a formidable force, it's no match for the transcendent power of love.

In "Death of a Ladies' Man," the fourth Bunburry book, the summer tourist season is in full swing.

Among the visitors is Mario Bellini, a gelateria owner with film-star good looks, who is considering opening an ice-cream parlour in Bunburry.

But shortly after his arrival, he is found dead - a tragic accident, or something more sinister? Amateur sleuth Alfie McAlister hopes to uncover the truth with the help of his friends Liz and Marge.

But is Liz too distracted by the prospect of financial gain to focus on the task at hand? They said his uncle Ian died in a car accident.

Alex Rider knows that's a lie, and the bullet holes in his uncle's car confirm the truth. But nothing can prepare him for the news that the uncle he always thought he knew was really a spy for Britain's top-secret intelligence agency.

Enlisted to find his uncle's killers and complete Ian's final mission, Alex suddenly finds himself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse, with no way out.

Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this new series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry.

In "Drop Dead, Gorgeous," the fifth Bunburry book, Deb's Beauty Salon becomes the last resting place for merry widow and property magnate Eve Mosby, whose passions include haute couture and a young lover.

Plenty of people disliked Mrs Mosby, but enough to kill her? And what really baffles amateur sleuth Alfie McAlister and his friends Liz and Marge is that the body is found in a locked room - how did the murderer get in and out?

Alfie has tried for months to convince his best friend to visit him - but when a glamorous High Society Party in honour of celebrated actor Dorian Stevens is announced, Oscar just can't resist.

He is - after all - Dorian's greatest fan and can't wait to meet his hero. But the evening at the lovely Saville mansion takes a murderous turn … Nathaniel Parker, born in , graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company.

We sell, frames, glass boxes and filt boxes. Over the years it developed into a digital photo agency. In IMS started with just one scanner trying out different methods of digitising archives.

With a team of 60 people IMS is digitizing thousands of photographs every day, cataloging them and thereby preserving these great historical moments.

IMS has developed a unique technology allowing it to take on very large archives. IMS is working with many of the worlds most renowned newspapers archives.

Q: Is this photo a reprint, a photo that you print from a digital file on demand? A: Absolutely not! What we are selling are the actual original images that come from press archives.

What you get is the actual copy from the archive. On the back of most photos you can see, stamps, writing and notes made over time as these photos were used in the publications.

The archives stopped using prints like this in , so the youngest photo we have is over 30 years old and the oldest over year old.

You are getting a real, authentic piece of history, every photograph is unique and there is only one copy of each photo. Q: Where do all these vintage photos come from that you are selling?

A: These original vintage photographs are from various news paper archives in Europe, mostly from United Kingdom and Scandinavia.

We work with these archives preserve all these great moments in history by digitizing them. By selling the original copy after it has been scanned, we can help pay for this very important project.

This project creates this ones in a lifetime opportunity for the public to buy these images that have been locked away for up to years in the archives.

A: From the photo archives of all the newspapers where in either print or film format. Most of them used the prints.

The prints were given to the printer who used them to setup the newspapers and print it and then the print was returned back to the archive.

Commonly the newspapers would stamp the dates when it was used in the newspapers and many photographs were used multiple times.

After they started using digital cameras and slowly the archives shifted over to the digital photo. The press archives stopped growing and slowly over time the archives used them less and less.

Now with the help of IMS Vintage Photos, they are able to scan all their archives and get access to them digitally and at the same time, the public can see many of them for the first time, and buy the original copies.

Q: How do you package the photos so they are shipped safely? A: We package each order in sturdy cardboard envelopes to prevent them from being bent, and then we wrap them in plastic sheet to prevent them from moisture and water.

We have shipped hundreds of thousands of photos to most countries in the world and it is a very rare exception if something is damaged on the way.

A: No. This is a digital watermark used to protect our images. It is not printed on the actual photo. Q: Can I download the digital version of this photo and keep it instead of buying the original?

A: No, we are only selling the actual vintage originals and do not make or distribute any digital copies.
